A swag and drop is typical of the Georgian period and is found on many Robert Adam designs of the time. It is a delicate and elegant enrichment, easily identified by the rise and fall pattern (swag is a verb meaning hang loosely or droop – as in a loss of tautness) linked by vertical “drops” evenly spaced across the cornice moulding.
