The Royal Institute of British Architects has selected the National Portrait Gallery’s recent transformation for a RIBA London Award 2024. The project, led by Jamie Fobert Architects and Purcell, delivered a new public entrance and forecourt, a learning centre, and repurposed existing office spaces into public space. Refurbished historical elements of the Grade I listed building have been seamlessly blended with contemporary design.
Artisan Plastercraft is delighted the project has received such recognition, having provided an on-site survey of plasterwork condition, lime plaster remedial work, fibrous plaster beam cases and the replication of several enriched cornice mouldings of various designs and sizes, and three types of plain-run cornice, totalling approximately 350 linear metres.
The RIBA Journal comments “Through a collaborative effort, the National Portrait Gallery transformation celebrates its rich heritage while embracing a concept for the future that is inclusive, engaging and inspiring for generations to come.”
