Fortnum & Mason needs little introduction. Dubbed ‘The world’s most famous corner shop’, the brand’s flagship store has existed at 181 Piccadilly in central London for over 300 years, providing extraordinary food, exceptional service, gifts and in-store experience. When the time came to review the building’s 3rd floor activities it was decided to transform the space into an exciting new food and drink proposition. As part of this repurposing, a program of renovation works was scheduled to improve and redecorate the third floor prior to its reopening to the public.

SD Shopfitting, a specialist in high-end fitout and refurbishment projects in the retail, commercial and residential sectors, was appointed to deliver the building works, and it was they who contacted Artisan Plastercraft to provide the decorative plaster cornice mouldings required to finish off the shop floor ceilings.

Cornicing is designed to act as a unique, decorative cover for the joins between walls and ceilings, and can be found in a variety of designs and styles based on era. View our stock mould selection.

Our work at Fortnum & Mason entailed taking an impression (a squeeze) of the existing mouldings to create exact replica cornice moulds back in our workshop. With these complete, we were able to manufacture and install a total of approximately 84 linear metres of plain style match-to-existing cornice to the ceiling coffers around the bulkheads of the 3rd floor.

The whole project was completed within a three-month timeframe and the new floor space is now populated by a food and drink studio suitable for live demonstrations and dining, an on-site distillery, cook shop, book shop, and the Home of Hampers – an area dedicated to the display and personalization of hampers for every occasion.

We are delighted to have contributed to the 3rd floor renovation at such an iconic retail institution.
