The Grand Hotel Birmingham is currently undergoing a £45million restoration and refurbishment. Artisan Plastercraft is actively involved in providing fibrous plaster restoration and replacement for ceilings and walls, as the iconic interiors are revived and enhanced to rival the finest hotels in the land. Our work includes refurbishment of the ceiling in the historic Grand Ballroom.
The Grand Hotel Birmingham originally opened in 1879 and comprises some 185 rooms, including 15 suites, plus the ballroom, bar and restaurant. The Colmore Row façade is in a French Renaissance style, and the interior features a mix Victorian and Arts & Crafts designs. In its heyday The Grand held a reputation as being one of the most spectacular hotels in the country and attracted such notable guests as King George VI, Winston Churchill, Charlie Chaplin and Malcolm X. When it re-opens, The Grand Hotel Birmingham will combine beautifully restored original features with interiors designed by Robert Angell International that bring glamour and comfort in equal measure.
