As part of a restoration project in South Kensington, London, we have been tasked with recreating an ornamental plaster ceiling. Made from fibrous plaster, the ceiling includes ornamental panel mouldings with a highly decorative pattern.
As you can see from the time lapse video below, the manufacturing process involved the creation of a mould from scratch using modelling clay and some skilful hand crafting to generate a quadrant, which was then cast eight times and laid out to make up the larger ceiling panel model. From this a larger mould was taken to then cast multiple ornamental plaster mouldings (shown in the main image). These panels will form the main part of the decorative ceiling and will be joined and pieced together on site.
